Eligible Taiwan passport holders will soon be able to enjoy speedy entry into the United States. That’s after the two countries signed on Monday a joint statement regarding Taiwan's participation in the Global Entry program.
Qualified Taiwanese citizens who have obtained U.S. approval will be able to use the Global Entry program. This means they can enter the United States at 42 major airports without waiting in long lines for immigration checks.
Joseph Donovan Jr., managing director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), and Shen Lyushun, Taiwan's representative to the US, signed the joint statement. It delineates the cooperation between the AIT and the Taipei representative office on the program.
The foreign ministry said it has worked with many government agencies, including the interior ministry for over a year to enter the program. The ministry said this program highlights close ties between Taiwan and the US.
