Deputy Foreign Minister Javier Hou says he is optimistic that Taiwan will join the United States’ Global Entry Program by the end of the year. Hou was speaking at the Legislature on Wednesday.
The Global Entry Program is an expedited travel program that allows qualified non-citizens to enter the US through special lines at immigration. Taiwan will become only the second Asian country whose nationals are eligible for the program.
The US and Taiwan agreed to cooperate on expedited travel in a joint statement signed Monday. Though Hou did not say exactly how soon Taiwan can expect to join the Global Entry Program, he did say that the process of joining should be complete in the coming months.
