A government delegation has left for Vietnam to seek compensation for Taiwanese businesses based there.
Protests by Vietnamese angered by a Chinese oil-drilling venture in a disputed area of the South China Sea turned violent last week. Protestors attacked factories considered “Chinese”, including those with Chinese-language signboards. Taiwanese businesses in southern Vietnam ended up suffering the worst damage.
The government delegation led by Vice Economics Minister Shen Jong-chin is scheduled to arrive in Vietnam Wednesday. The delegation will examine the damage suffered by Taiwanese businesses and establish a channel for negotiations with Vietnamese officials.
