The government statistics office said that the number of Taiwan overseas travelers reached a record high of over 13 million last year. That’s an annual growth rate of 11 percent.
In terms of domestic travel, the office data said that popular tourist attractions like national scenic areas and parks had 285 million visits last year. That’s the second highest in history and was only less than the record of 288 million in 2014.
The office also cited economic development led to a per capita domestic gross product over US$20,000 since 2011. The office said people have been more interested in leisure activities to improve their quality of life.
People also are spending more on leisure activities. Last year, NT$74.9 billion was spent which marked 2.6% growth over the year before.
