Taiwan denies intelligence activity with Taiwanese American officer
Defense Ministry Spokesman David Lo

Taiwanese American Lt. Commander Edward C. Lin is being investigated for espionage and other charges. US Navy investigators believe Lin provided military secrets to China and Taiwan. Lin was born in Taiwan and went to the US as a teenager and is a naturalized American citizen. Lt. Commander Lin is 39-years old and has served on some of the Navy’s most sensitive intelligence gathering aircraft.

Taiwan’s defense ministry spokesman David Lo said they were not aware of the case as the US has not contacted the ministry. Reports have said that Lin had interaction with a Colonel Kao but Lo said there was no such person:

"Media reports mentioned that we have a Colonel Kao stationed in the US. We looked into this and there is no Colonel Kao. There is a Lt. Colonel Kao but he is retired," said Lo.

Lo said that the reports currently have not named its sources so they are not based on evidence. Lo also emphasized that Taiwan is not using US officers to gather intelligence.

Investigators are also considering charging Lt. Commander Lin with espionage, not disclosing foreign travel, hiring a prostitute and committing adultery, which is a crime in the military.
