Taiwanese violinist Chen Yu-ting has made it into the Senior Finals of the 2016 Menuhin Competition in London. Chen and three other contestants will be vying for the top prize of 10,000 British pounds on Saturday.

Chen, currently studying at the Curtis Institute of Music in the United States, began learning the violin at the age of 5. When she was 7, she won at the children’s concerto series with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. She has also been a winner at other competitions, most recently at the 2nd Stradivarius International Violin Competition in 2012.

This year marks American born violinist Yehudi Menuhin’s 100th birthday. The biennial competition is the world’s leading international competition for young violinists under the age of 22. Another of Taiwan’s prominent violinists, Tseng Yu-chien, previously won third place in the same competition.
