Foreign ministry official Hsu Pei-yung says the ministry has informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about Taiwan’s incoming health minister. He was speaking at a press conference Tuesday, referring to the WHO’s assembly set to take place in Geneva from May 23-28.
Hsu said Taiwan’s representative office in Geneva has informed the WHO about the change of health minister next month. The health minister is conventionally Taiwan’s representative to the World Health Assembly (WHA).
Hsu said the health ministry has not yet received invitation from the WHO. Last month, he said Taiwan will attend the WHA as an observer, as it has for the past seven years.
Hsu said the representative office will stay in contact with the WHO and urge the organization to issue an invitation soon. He said there was not a set time when Taiwan received invitation in the past few years.
