Taiwan wins silver prize at Ghent Flower Show

Taiwan has won a silver prize in the category for international participants at the 35th Ghent Flower Show in Belgium.

The Taiwan Floriculture Development Association won the prize Friday for its presentation of orchids and bamboo weaving techniques unique to Taiwan.

The 177-yar-old Ghent Flower Show is held once every five years and is the most important show of its kind in Europe.

Taiwanese floral artist Zuo Yeh-lan said her design features orchids dotted with bamboo and flowers indigenous to Taiwan. Zuo said that this year’s presentation is more environmentally-friendly and a departure from the previous presentation of flowers on a steel rack.

She said the prize is encouraging and will allow the world to learn more about Taiwan’s orchids, bamboo-weaving, and floriculture.

The Ghent Flower Show will run through May 1st.
