Gas prices rise for second straight week
Higher price at the pump

Taiwan’s gas and diesel prices are set to rise again this week after a similar rise last week. The new prices will go into effect at midnight on Sunday, moving into Monday morning.

The state-run oil company, CPC Corporation, Taiwan, has announced that prices will go up by NT$0.1 per liter for both gas and diesel (that’s about US$0.003).

CPC says that international oil prices slid over the past week after OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) members failed to agree to a production freeze. But prices rebounded following a strike by gas and oil workers in Kuwait and the release of new figures that showed that the commercial demand for oil in the US was less than expected. The rise in international oil prices triggered a rise in Taiwan’s floating gas and diesel prices.

The new prices per liter will be: for super diesel, NT$19.5; for 92 octane unleaded, NT$22.1; for 95 octane unleaded, NT$23.6; and for 98 octane unleaded, NT$25.6 per liter.
