Korea’s National Assembly has invited Taiwan’s legislators for a visit. This is the first time that such an invitation has been extended since the two sides ended diplomatic ties in 1992.

Korea’s National Assembly has invited legislators from 14 countries to visit from May 9 to May 13. Taiwan was one of the countries invited and will be sending a delegation of lawmakers from different parties.

The head of the Taiwan-Korean inter-parliamentary friendship association Lin Te-fu said that the invitation is very meaningful:

"This visit is a particular meaningful one because it is the first official invitation since diplomatic ties ended over 20 years ago," said Lin, "they have planned the itinerary and are funding the entire trip."

Lin said the visit would be a good opportunity to talk about trade and economic issues. Lawmaker Chen Yi-chieh said taking a look at South Korea’s popular entertainment industry and economic policies might provide some insight for Taiwan’s economic development.
