Gaming machines help promote Taiwan in the world: Tsai
President-elect Tsai Ing-wen

President-elect Tsai Ing-wen says that Taiwanese gaming machines are a tool for promoting Taiwan in the world. Tsai was speaking Thursday at the opening of the 2016 Game Time International Asia Taipei Expo (GTI).

Tsai said that her administration, which is to take office on May 20, has visited Taiwanese companies in different sectors to gain a deeper understanding of their needs. She said she attended the expo in order to learn more about Taiwan’s gaming industry.

Tsai said that Taiwan used to rely on imported arcade and slot machines. Now, she said, the country is able to export them.

"Now, over 70 countries around the world use game consoles made in Taiwan. This is the result of many years of effort. I’d like to hereby thank everyone for their hard work. You are not only boosting industrial development, but also helping Taiwan keep up with the world. It’s the best form of public diplomacy," Tsai said.

The total value of exported Taiwanese gaming machines is expected to break US$1 billion this year, placing Taiwan among the world’s top ten game exporters. Tsai said that GTI showcases excellent products made in Taiwan while also demonstrating Taiwan’s innovative spirit.
