Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that Washington looks forward to cooperating with president-elect Tsai Ing-wen and other political parties in Taiwan.
In a written statement released Thursday, Blinken told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that Washington will continue adhering to its One China policy while strengthening ties with Taiwan. Blinken said that Taiwan’s vibrant democracy has sent a strong message to the world.
Blinken said that Washington has urged China to hold a dialogue with President-elect Tsai Ing-wen on condition of mutual respect. He also said that Washington has called on China to promote positive cross-strait development and to be flexible in dealing with Taiwan.
