Lin says policy will be to avoid increasing energy prices
Incoming Premier Lin Chuan

Incoming Premier Lin Chuan says that the government will do its best to avoid increasing electricity prices for Taiwan’s households. His comments came in an interview on Sunday, when the incoming Cabinet met to discuss policy issues.

Lin’s remarks came on the heels of a comment by the incoming Atomic Energy Council head, Hsieh Shou-shing. Hsieh, who was announced for the position on Friday, said that if Taiwan moves to create a nuclear free homeland, then people will need to be prepared for the possibility of an energy shortage or a rise in electricity prices.

But Lin said that the incoming administration’s policy of creating a nuclear free homeland does not necessarily mean that electricity prices must go up. He said that changes in electricity prices will not surpass the adjustments of the last ten years. The premier said that the incoming administration will do its best to ensure that there will not be any shortage of electricity and that prices remain reasonable.
