The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has unveiled the design for a commemorative bottle of kaoliang liquor that will be given to guests at the inaugural banquet on May 20.
President-elect Tsai Ing-wen is set to take office on that day, becoming the first female president of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
The commemorative kaoliang is being produced in conjunction with the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation, with a design by an acclaimed local designer: Aaron Nieh.
The bottles unveiled for the first time on Monday, feature a clean white finish; they will be produced by Tai-Hwa Pottery. Unlike previous years, the bottles will not contain the images of the incoming president and vice president. The DPP said the reason for that is to forgo what it described as a sense of “authoritarianism” .
The the light touch of the color green on the bottle hints at a traditional landscape painting; it's also the representative color of the DPP. The design features typographical inscriptions by artist Ho Chia-hsing.
A total of 1,000 bottles will be presented as gifts, while another 3,000 will be available for purchase in late May.
