Taiwan’s consumer price index (CPI) showed a rise of 1.88% year on year in April. That’s according to the latest figures from the government statistics office released Thursday.
Figures show that food prices went up by 7.96% in April. That’s because unstable weather in the first quarter of the year sent fruit and vegetable prices rising. However deputy head of the government statistics office Tsai Yu-tai said that prices are slowly stabilizing.
The statistics office pointed out that core CPI, which excludes vegetables, fruit, and energy prices, went up 0.92% in April. That’s the biggest increase in the last 13 months. However, the office said that overall prices are stable.
