Legislature to hold hearing on Taiwanese nationals held in China
Returning from Malaysia

The Legislature’s Foreign and National Defense Committee will hold a hearing Monday on the case of several dozen Taiwanese nationals being held in China.

Representatives from the foreign ministry, the justice ministry, the National Security Bureau, and the Mainland Affairs Council are scheduled to attend.

One focus of the hearing will be on the Taiwanese nationals accused of telecom fraud in Kenya and later forcibly sent to China. But the hearing will also address the case of 32 other Taiwanese nationals accused of fraud and sent to China from Malaysia.

The justice ministry says that the Taiwan High Prosecutor’s Office has developed an effective way of recovering money stolen by telecom fraudsters. The ministry also says that it will send another delegation to China soon as the case continues to develop.
