Taiwan to open up to Apple Pay: Premier
ApplePay

Premier Chang San-cheng said Wednesday that Taiwan will allow the use of digital wallet platforms such as Apple Pay. The premier said he consulted financial experts and top officials before making the decision. Apple Pay and similar systems are digital wallet services that allow mobile devices to make payments at contactless points of sale.

Chang said that the settlement of transactions must be made in Taiwan to cover concerns such as leakage of data.

"Android pay, Line pay, and Samsung pay will also be opened at the same time. The original TSP (Token Service Provider) can be used as well as credit cards such as Visa or MasterCard," said the premier. "The most important requirement, which is already in the law, is that the settlement of transactions must be made in Taiwan. Domestic transactions must be settled domestically. This will guarantee that all transactions can be seen and taxed."
