A string of earthquakes rattled eastern parts of Taiwan Saturday, bringing a third day of shaking to the area.
Shaking began at 11:12am Taiwan Time when a 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit. This was followed within ten minutes by two more earthquakes- a 3.9 and a 3.8.
The largest earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 and struck at 11:32am. According to the Central Weather Bureau, earthquakes with a range of magnitudes between 3.2 and 4.3 continued to jolt the area into the afternoon. The earthquakes were centered in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Hualien County.
Saturday’s earthquakes continue several days of seismic activity along Taiwan’s east coast. On Thursday, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck off Yilan County just to the north. That was followed on Friday by another earthquake off Yilan, this time a 5.1.
So far, the earthquakes have not caused any significant injuries or damage.
