Taiwan completes registration for WHA
WHA registration completed

Taiwan’s representatives have completed their registration for the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva. That’s the word from the health ministry on Tuesday.

Taiwan received a formal invitation letter on May 9 from the World Health Organization (WHO) to attend the WHA as an observer under the name "Chinese Taipei".

For the first time however the invitation included mention of UN Resolution 2758 which was passed in 1971 recognizing Beijing rather than Taipei as the only legitimate representative of China to the UN. Health ministry official Hsu Min-huei said that his office has been in close communication with the foreign ministry. He said both offices have agreed to protect Taiwan’s dignity if any misunderstanding about Taiwan’s status at the WHA occurs at the upcoming meeting.

Meanwhile, incoming Cabinet spokesman Tung Chen-yuan said that he is glad that Taiwan received a reply letter from the WHO for Taiwan’s acceptance to attend the WHA. He said that participating in the assembly will be a great opportunity for the voices of Taiwan’s public to be heard and for Taiwan to contribute to world health.
