Taiwan’s Honhai Technology Group has announced that it plans to establish a robotics company. They will start putting robotic products and services on the market as soon as the third quarter this year.
Huang Chong-hung , a researcher at the Industrial Economics & Knowledge Center (IEK), said Wednesday that robotic arms are already being used in production lines. Hong Hai’s future robots will be for use in department stores, telecommunications companies, electronics stores, and financial institutions. But Huang said that artificial intelligence will be key to the success or failure of these robotic products.
"If we can get deep into this area of artificial intelligence, we believe there will be a big chance for future success. That means we will be entering the robotics age," Huang said. "This year is a starting point. But the question of whether this year can take us to a robotic age where robots are commonly used will depend on the key element of artificial intelligence."
He said even though HonHai is just starting out, the age of robots may come very soon.
