Six Taiwanese nationals have been arrested by Japanese authorities for alleged drug trafficking. That’s the word from Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau on Thursday.
The six Taiwanese nationals were found Tuesday on a Malaysia-registered yacht traveling from Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan to Okinawa. They were allegedly carrying 600 kilograms of amphetamine. The estimated market value for the drugs comes to more than US$380 million, making this the largest drug haul ever recorded in Okinawa.
The vessel is currently docked in Naha, Okinawa’s capital city, and the six Taiwanese are in detention pending further investigation. Some of them reportedly have previous criminal records involving drugs.
