The US has expressed its hope that President Tsai Ing-wen’s administration will bring continued cross-strait dialogue.

Grace Choi, spokesperson for the State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said Friday that the US hopes to strengthen ties with Taiwan by working with Tsai Ing-wen and the leaders of all Taiwan’s political parties.

Choi said that the US has an interest in the continuation of cross-strait peace and stability. She said that the US believes in the peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues in ways that are acceptable to people on both sides and at a pace and scope that both sides agree on.

Choi said the US welcomes steps that both sides have taken in recent years to lower cross-strait tensions and improve cross-strait relations. She said the US hopes that high-level interactions between Taipei and Beijing continue. She also said that the US encourages constructive cross-strait dialogue based on dignity and respect.
