On this day in 1990, Microsoft released the Windows 3.0 operating system.

On this day in 2004, the U.S. town of Hallam, Nebraska was wiped out by a powerful F4 tornado (part of the May 2004 tornado outbreak sequence) which killed one resident, and became the widest tornado on record at 2.5 miles (4.0 km) wide.

On this day in 2012, Tokyo Skytree was opened to public. It is the tallest tower in world (634 m), and the second tallest man-made structure on Earth, after Burj Khalifa (829.8 m).

On this day in 2015, the Republic of Ireland became the first nation in the world to legalize gay marriage in a public referendum.
