American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Kin Moy promised that he would work closely with President Tsai Ing-wen. The AIT is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of official ties. Moy posted a picture of him shaking hands with President Tsai on the AIT Facebook page on Tuesday.
Moy said he had his first official meeting with Tsai on Monday. He thanked the Taiwan government for inviting a delegation of top US representatives to come attend Tsai’s inauguration. He also said that the two sides would work closely together for the welfare of the people of Taiwan and the US. Moy wished her the best as she leads Taiwan in overcoming its challenges.
Moy and five former AIT directors also sent out a video on their Facebook page congratulating Taiwan on its democratic achievements and giving a thumbs up for relations between Taiwan and the US. The other former AIT directors in the video included Christopher Marut, William Stanton, Stephen Young, Douglas Paal and Raymond Burghardt.
