Designs for 2016 Tang Prize certificates revealed
The Tang Prize

The Tang Prize Foundation has unveiled the certificates it will present to the winners of this year’s Tang Prize.

The Tang Prize recognizes exceptional contributions in the areas of sustainable development, biopharmaceutical science, Sinology, and rule of law. The biennial prize was established by Taiwanese entrepreneur Samuel Yin. It was first awarded in 2014.

The Tang Prize Foundation commissioned designer Lin Cheung to develop this year’s certificates. Cheung’s previous work includes the design for the 2012 London Paralympics gold medal.

Each of the certificates features a unique design. The certificate for sustainable development features a map of the world composed from the shapes of animals and trees. The biopharmaceutical science certificate features chemical formulas, the Sinology certificate shows the eight basic calligraphy strokes used to write Chinese characters, and the rule of law certificate shows handprints, which Lin said represent “lending a hand to those who can’t help themselves”.

This year’s Tang Prize winners will be announced in June, and the awards ceremony will take place in September.
