Friendly exchanges key to future of cross-strait relations: Premier
Premier Lin Chuan

Premier Lin Chuan says that friendly exchanges are the key to the future of cross-strait relations.

Lin was speaking at the Cabinet Thursday, a day after China’s Taiwan Affairs Office Minister Zhang Zhijun warned against moves towards formal independence. During his meeting with a Taiwanese business leader based in China, Zhang said “seeking Taiwan independence will lead to a dead end” and jeopardize cross-strait ties.

The Premier said that the government’s China policy will remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, Legislature President Su Jia-chyuan said that there shouldn’t be any restraint when it comes to Taiwan’s ties with China.

"Setting any political framework across the Taiwan Strait is not conducive to pragmatic development, as it will also influence cross-strait peace and stability. The two sides should engage in dialogue with sincerity and not have any political framework," Su said.
