Hong Kong’s Food and Health Bureau has contacted Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration for further information about news of unsafe oatmeal products.
The Food and Drug Administration released a report on Thursday on spot-checks of imported oatmeal products currently for sale in Taiwan. The report found that 10 of 36 oatmeal products contain glyphosate, a weed killer which can potentially cause cancer.
The vice-chief of Hong Kong’s Food and Health Bureau, Sophia Chan, said that her bureau inspects imported oatmeal products every year and the results have always been up to standard. She said the bureau is trying to find out whether the same glyphosate-infested oatmeals are on sale in Hong Kong.
