Taiwan Power Company says that high temperatures and an increase in energy consumption could cut into its operating reserves. That was the word on Sunday, after temperatures soared to 36.7 degrees Celsius in Taipei, the highest temperature yet this year.
On its web site, Taipower said that energy consumption on Sunday topped 28,200 megawatts. That left an operating reserve of just 6.68%.
Taipower officials say that with the hot weather expected to continue for another three days, the operating reserve percentage could fall to below 6%, which would result in an orange warning light.
