The defense ministry says it is monitoring China’s military exercises. That’s the word from the Defense Ministry’s acting spokesman, Chen Chung-chi, on Monday.
Earlier, a Chinese TV station affiliated with the Liberation Army made a rare announcement about the drill. The exercises are thought to be part of China’s “carrot and stick” approach to dealing with Taiwan.
Chen said the military is closely monitoring the routine drills.
“China has never decreased its military threat to Taiwan. The defense ministry already has a grasp on the related maneuvers, so the public can remain at ease. We would also like to urge the public to support national defense efforts in order to together ensure the safety of the nation," said Chen.
Chen declined to comment on details of the Chinese military exercises.
