The Taipei Weather Station has recorded the highest June temperature since it was set up in 1896.
The mercury in Taipei hit 38.7C at 2:46pm Wednesday as high pressure of the Pacific and southwesterly winds brought high temperatures across Taiwan. On Wednesday, the Central Weather Bureau had forecast an “apparent” temperature of 42C in Taipei and 45C in Taitung, which is usually the hottest part of Taiwan.
The Central Weather Bureau predicts that temperatures of around 35C will continue across Taiwan, but that starting Thursday, afternoon rainful could bring slight relief from the heat.
