The head of the Taoyuan Airport Corporation has resigned. That’s after severe flooding at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Thursday disrupted 200 flights and affected 30,000 passengers. The airport is the main gateway serving the Taipei area.
The flooding was attributed to a surge in the nearby Pushin river following a heavy thunderstorm. Flood waters cut off underpasses connecting the airport to the highway but these had been reopened by Thursday evening.
Water that had flooded the airport’s downstairs food court had been pumped out by 5pm Thursday. But workers were still pumping water out of the basement of Terminal 2 around midnight.
On Friday, Samuel Lin stood down as chair of Taoyuan Airport Corporation to take responsibility for the flooding and its handling.
