Premier Lin Chuan says he is willing to apologize at the legislature for a comment he made there last Friday about the so-called “comfort women.”
The term “comfort women” is a euphemism to refer to the many Taiwanese women that the Japanese military forced into sexual slavery during WWII.
When answering questions at the legislature on Friday, Premier Lin said that some of the women may have been willing participants. He has since apologized for his remark, but legislators from the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) are calling on him to make an apology at the legislature.
During a visit to a senior citizens home on Sunday, Lin said his knowledge about “comfort women” was limited and that he’d made mistakes in his comments. He said he was willing to return to the legislature to apologize for his remarks.
