President Tsai Ing-wen said Taiwan’s Military Police are important for maintaining freedom and democracy. Tsai was speaking on Tuesday while reviewing the Military Police’s 239 Battalion in a Cloud Leopard armored vehicle in the Dazhi area of Taipei.
Tsai said the battalion is not just responsible for watching over the capital. It is also a base for the domestically made armored vehicles. Tsai said she appreciates the Military Police as they are the branch that guards her as she enters the Presidential Office every day.
The president said she was informed that the armed forces face manpower shortages and increased workloads. She said she will discuss the issues with the defense minister and the chief of the general staff.
