President Tsai Ing-wen spent a relaxing Dragon Boat Festival on Thursday making holiday sticky rice treats for the public.
Tsai was in Gongliao on Taiwan’s northern coast in what has become a holiday tradition for her since 2010. She and a group of local women were to be found making zongzi – dumplings of sticky rice usually wrapped in bamboo leaves. The snack is traditionally eaten to mark the Dragon Boat Festival.
“[I] hope everyone will eat a few more zongzi this year, have a good holiday and lift our spirits so we can do more for this country," said Tsai.
"I also wish all of our citizens a happy Dragon Boat Festival with peace and success in the times ahead," she said.
