Premier Lin Chuan says Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport can be one of the best airports in the world. Lin was speaking on Thursday as Taiwan’s largest airport was gearing up extra traffic over the four-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
The airport last week experienced flooding due to heavy rain, disrupting 200 flights and affecting 30,000 passengers.
Lin said despite such problems, he believes Taoyuan airport can become one of the best airports in the world.
“Even though Taoyuan has shortcomings compared to other leading airports, it is our home, our airport," said Lin.
"We hope we can do better to promote it," he said. "With Taiwan’s ability and determination to build an airport to a world-class standard, I see no reason why Taoyuan cannot rank among the world’s top airports. I look forward to the installation of better hardware and software [to upgrade the airport].”
Lin said he hopes the new chair of Taoyuan International Airport Corp, Tseng Dar-jen, will work to improve the airport’s management. The previous chair stood down in the wake of last week’s flooding.
