Cabinet and Legislature will communicate better: Lin
Premier Lin

Premier Lin Chuan says he believes that the Cabinet and the Legislature will be able to achieve better communication from now on. Lin was speaking on Thursday after his meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen a day earlier over controversy surrounding the First Nuclear Power Plant.

The media reported that Tsai expressed displeasure at how the Cabinet and the Legislature did not choose to communicate before going public with Lin’s suggestion to restart a reactor at the plant to meet short-term energy needs. The plant is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2018.

With temperatures rising, Lin had floated the idea of reactivating the plant’s number one reactor to help meet Taiwan’s summer energy needs. The idea immediately met with a backlash as the Tsai administration has committed itself to abolishing the use of nuclear power in Taiwan.
