The office in charge of President Tsai Ing-wen’s “New Southbound” policy is still being set up but will start to issue public statements soon. That’s the word from a Presidential Office spokesperson on Thursday.

The “New Southbound” policy is a drive by the Tsai administration to diversify Taiwan’s trade partners by strengthening trade ties with countries in Southeast Asia and with India.

The spokesperson said that the head of the office, Huang Chih-fang, has been working on drafting policy and holding talks with other departments since the new administration took office on May 20.
