Weather bureau warns of torrential rain
Landslide

Meteorologists are warning people in central and southern Taiwan of the possibility of torrential rain. In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Central Weather Bureau issued a warning for eight counties and cities along the west coast of Taiwan.

Those areas include Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City and County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County.

Officials say that the rain is being brought by a southwesterly weather system. They say that people in mountainous areas should take precautions against landslides and high water levels in mountain streams. People in low-lying areas need to also be on the lookout for flash flooding.

Forecasters say that other parts of Taiwan can also expect showers and thunderstorms, while people in the nation’s flatlands and outlying islands can expect strong winds gusting up to between categories 8-10, which is gale force winds.

The Central Weather Bureau was warning people to take extra precautions when engaging in activities near the ocean.
