Deputy Foreign Minister Javier Hou spoke on Tuesday about Tsai’s trip.
Hou said, “We want to show our sincerity in strengthening ties with allies through President Tsai’s first overseas trip since her inauguration. Allies would like to strengthen trade and investment relations, so local businesses will also go to check out investment opportunities and create mutually beneficial partnerships between Taiwan and its diplomatic allies.”
President Tsai will attend the Panama Canal Expansion ceremony and meet with President Juan Carlos Varela. She will also meet with President Horacio Cartes of Paraguay and has been invited to speak at Paraguay’s parliament.
