Premier Lin Chuan has told a business group that the government sees creating job opportunities as the priority in its economic policy. Lin was speaking Wednesday at the The Third Wednesday Club, where he discussed the topic of innovation.
Lin said economic development is not just measured by economic growth but also by people’s salaries and job opportunities. He said that innovative industries will move the economy forward.
The president of the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research said that Taiwan also needs raise levels of foreign direct investment, and that foreign direct investment should be a key performance indicator of the government. But Lin said that job opportunities are even more important
"Foreign direct Investment will not be one of the government’s Key Performance Indicators. I only want one Key Performance Indicator, which is whether the issues we discuss help create job opportunities," said Lin. "These are important. If something does not help the job situation, then it will not be first priority."
