Premier Lin Chuan has responded to dissatisfaction with the new government in remarks at the Legislature Friday.
According to the latest survey by Taiwan Indicators Survey Research, the public has grown increasingly dissatisfied with the new Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government’s lack of breakthrough policies. When asked about whether the current government is simply continuing with the policies of the previous KMT administration, Lin said there is always continuation of policies in politics, and that he hopes the new government will make some changes.
“I think we are not trying to deny the previous government’s achievements. There is always continuation in politics, but when a new party takes power, there are expectations that the party should make more breakthroughs. But that doesn’t mean we should deny the previous government’s achievements," said Lin.
Lin also responded to questions on the Cabinet’s recent proposal of raising business taxes to fund long-term care in Taiwan, saying that there is no specific plan in place at the moment.
