President Tsai Ing-wen says the new administration needs to work together to solve Taiwan’s problems, and it needs time to get used to working as a team.
Speaking on Tsai’s behalf on Wednesday, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesman David Huang said that the public has high expectations of the new government. In the past month, issues like pension reform, judicial reform, workers’ rights, and the establishment of a long-term care system have all surfaced. Huang said that the DPP will work to meet public expectations.
"Faced with many longstanding problems and difficulties, it’s not possible to fix them all in one step. It does take time," Huang said. "We’ve been in office for a month, and [members of] our administration do need some time go get used to working together. But since we face major challenges, we should step up the pace so that we can meet the public’s expectations."
Huang said that the new administration needs to communicate more and work together to solve Taiwan’s problems.
