A Cabinet spokesperson on Thursday addressed concerns that planning for the 2017 Taipei Universiade has fallen worryingly behind schedule.

Taipei is set to host the next edition of the student Olympics next year. But a task force set up more than three years ago under Chang Ching-sen to coordinate planning has yet to hold a single meeting. Cabinet spokesperson Tung Chen-yuan said Premier Lin Chuan has pledged central government support to get planning for the games back on track.

Tung said, "The premier heard Chang Ching-sen’s explanation that the task force for the promotion and coordination of the 2017 Universiade was set up three years and two months ago but has yet to hold a single meeting. The premier said every department under the Cabinet will do its utmost to lend support and use Chang’s task force as a platform to assist each department and give support to Taipei City." Tung also said the first meeting of Chang’s task force would take place on Thursday afternoon.

Taipei was awarded the 2017 edition of the world student games at the end of 2011.
