Taiwan will begin granting visa-free entry to citizens of Andorra and San Marino. Nationals of both countries will be permitted to remain in Taiwan for up to 90 days without a visa. The measure is expected to come into force beginning June 1st.
This will bring the number of countries whose nationals may enter Taiwan without a visa up to 45. Currently, the majority of countries whose citizens do not require visas to visit Taiwan are located in Europe. A further six of these countries are located in the Asia-Pacific region. Outside of these regions, only citizens of the US, Canada, and Israel can enter Taiwan without a visa.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese nationals are currently able to visit 140 countries and territories either without a visa or with a visa available on arrival. Foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao says this relatively high number is thanks to Taiwan’s democratic government, economic strength, mature civil society, and secure passports.
