Foreign minister monitoring PCA’s ruling on disputed waters

The foreign ministry says it is closely monitoring the case that the Philippines has brought before the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

The case involves maritime disputes between the Philippines and China in the South China Sea.

The court based in The Hague is expected to hand down a ruling on the Philippine’s claim to waters also claimed by China on July 12th.

The government is calling for peaceful means to solve territorial disputes. However, it has argued that Taiwan must be included in a multilateral negotiation mechanism to help maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

The previous Kuomintang (KMT) administration said Taiwan will not recognize or accept any ruling that jeopardizes the country’s sovereignty.

The current Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government said it will respond to the ruling, depending on the circumstances.
