The Central Weather Bureau says that a low pressure area near Guam could develop into the first typhoon of the year. However, the bureau says that the low pressure area is unlikely to develop into a typhoon over the next 24 hours.

On Saturday, the Central Weather Bureau said that several conditions needed for a typhoon to form, including atmospheric moisture and high sea temperatures are in place in an area near Guam.

The area is more than 3000km away from Taiwan. Bureau forecasters say it is still unclear when a typhoon might form, but that a tropical disturbance may begin to impact weather around Taiwan beginning July 7.
