Prosecutors find nothing suspicious in missile investigation
Kaohsiung mayor offers condolences

Kaohsiung prosecutors say they have found nothing suspicious in their investigation into an accidental missile launch.

The word came Sunday following an investigation into the launch of a Hsiung Feng III supersonic missile during a naval training session on Friday. The missile landed in waters off Penghu Island, destroying a fishing boat and killing the boat’s captain. The explosion also injured the captain’s son and two fishermen, one from the Philippines and one from Vietnam.

There had been talk of a conspiracy or of a possible leak of classified information. Prosecutors investigated the living quarters, personal effects, and smart phones of two servicemen connected to the launch. But they say that the investigation did not turn up anything unusual.

As to whether any classified information was leaked, prosecutors say that the defense ministry needs to determine that first, along with a list of suspects and then communicate that to prosecutors.
