Premier Lin Chuan said Tuesday that the accidental firing of a naval missile last week has resulted in a breach of classified information.
A Hsiung Feng III missile was accidentally fired from a naval ship docked in Kaohsiung during an exercise on Friday. The supersonic anti-ship missile struck a fishing boat off Penghu Island, killing the captain and injuring three crewmen.
Lin said that the government spends NT$300 billion every year on defense and requires a military fit and able to defend the nation. If the military leaks classified information, it is not fit for purpose, he said.
The navy has said the firing of the missile was due to human error and the government has promised a full investigation.
