Kaohsiung International Airport has rolled out automated immigration service on a trial basis. Nearly 1000 foreign nationals used the service between its launch on July 1 and July 4.
An average 30,000 people a day have passed through Taiwan’s automated immigration system since it was expanded to cover foreign nationals in 2012. Those wishing to use the service must be at least 14 years old and must provide biometric data such as fingerprints. Under normal circumstances, the process of entering or leaving takes between seven to ten seconds.
The National Immigration Agency hopes to make automated immigration available at all points of entry into Taiwan by the end of 2018.
