Delegations from Kaohsiung, Tainan and Taichung cities have joined the 2016 Annual Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation taking place in Bonn, Germany, from July 6-8.

The forum is a global platform where representatives of cities share experience in issues of environmental protection and urban governance. These include sustainable development, adapting to climate change and disaster prevention.

The forum is especially significant to Taiwan since the island country is affected by climate change and often faces typhoons, landslides and flooding.

The program welcomes 1,500 cities and regions that are promoting areas such as sustainability, low carbon emissions, clean energy and biodiversity. Together they account for more than 20% of the world population.

This year, the forum focused on resilience strategies, development of justice, and fundraising projects. The conference will also discuss the content and the implementation of the Paris Convention on climate change.
